Rick Chapman has nearly 30 years of experience working in high tech industries, predominantly Semiconductors and Software. After 5 years with Marconi, Rick joined STMicroelectronics in 1990. Over nearly 12 years, he held a variety of international positions, including R&D Director – Semicustom and Business Development Director – Microprocessors. Since 2001, Rick has worked with several start-ups. He was a founding executive of SuperH Inc., an intellectual property licensing company and, as VP of Business Development, he delivered revenue growth from zero to $7m in two years. After a spell as CTO of Cobault Ltd, a CRM software company, he joined Spiral Gateway Ltd, a semiconductor start-up designing an innovative microprocessor architecture. As CTO of Reveal2me Ltd, he helped bring a disruptive content delivery platform for smart phones to market. He is currently Director of the Microelectronics iNet, an Entrepreneur-in-Residence in SETsquared Bristol and works with other organisations in Bristol & Bath supporting the high tech cluster, including his role as High Tech Sector Specialist for Invest Bristol & Bath.
Rodger Sykes has a global background in high technology in both small and large companies. For the last 3 years he has focused on mentoring early stage companies and leading fundraising through Chairman and Board Director roles. From 2006 to 2010 he was President and CEO of MMIC Solutions, a venture funded company focused on commercialising the mmwave frequency bands. He was a founder and CEO at SiConnect Ltd, a powerline networking company, and before that President and CEO at picoChip in Bath (UK), a cellular femtocell company. From 1990 to 2002 he lived in the US holding senior management positions with Texas Instruments, Philips Semiconductors and latterly with LogicVision Inc a Design Automation Software company including their $47M IPO in 2000. Rodger has a PhD. in Device Physics and a BSc. in Electronics & Applied Physics from the University of Durham (UK).
Bryan Sergeant is a Management Consultant and Board-Level Coach helping businesses grow their sales, profit and valuation. Providing Advice / guidance with raising investment or exiting with personal experience of leading functions in: sales, marketing, product development, operations, organisation management (inc HR) and finance. He has been advising businesses for 10 years. Prior to that held senior / board roles in large corporates, mid-sized, small business and start-ups… including:
- Director at Telewest (when a FTSE50 business)
- Founding Director of uSwitch.com (sold, after 6 years, for £210m)
- Founded and CEO of an IT business which also operated in Eastern Europe and grew to a valuation of $10m in 3 years
- Operations Director of the £600m startup telecom business (186k Ltd) – Head of Global Sales for the energy business in Hawker Siddeley Group
- Investor, director and adviser to numerous smaller businesses and start-ups.
His broad experience covers industries including: telecoms, IT, healthcare, media, manufacturing and services.
Melissa has a wealth of experience in the financial services sector – her clients include the Chartered Insurance Institute, the accountancy group CharterGroup, Marsh, NIG, FarmWeb and HSBC.
In addition to working with large corporations such as Coca Cola and the Royal Mail, she has taught PhD and post graduate students at Bristol, Bath and Southampton University how to articulate the value of their complex research – in particular to help them pitch and hold effective networking conversations.
As well as holding a coaching certificate, she is a master practitioner of neuro linguistic programming – which looks at how language affects behaviour.
Ben Allen has over twenty years of experience working in senior Marketing, Product Marketing and Business Development roles within the high technology sector. Starting his career with the consumer electronics giant Panasonic, Ben has built a successful career in both Telecommunications (Orange) and the Broadcast Industry (Acorn, NDS, Tandberg Television and Thomson). These roles have involved the successful development, launch and sales of cutting edge products in highly competitive environments. Ben has worked internationally managing remote teams of Engineers, Product Managers to target a global customer base. In addition, Ben has held senior management positions in the education sector, most recently Vice Principal of Business Development in one of the country’s largest colleges. Ben has gained an MBA from the University of Bath and is currently a self-employed consultant focusing on Marketing, Communications and Business Development.
